Country Club of Newberry is a private golf facility founded in 1922 in South Carolina's midlands region. The course features 18 holes with a classic design, with the original 9 holes established at the club's founding and the back nine completed in 1976 through combined membership and management efforts. The course originally utilized sand greens until 1949, when they were upgraded to modern putting surfaces. The layout has remained essentially unchanged since the back nine's completion, though improved maintenance procedures have enhanced playability over the years. The club was established by dedicated local citizens seeking a private venue for social gatherings, golf, swimming, and tennis. The original swimming facility, a spring-fed pond fed by over seventy-five springs, remains intact behind the clubhouse. Today, Country Club of Newberry continues its long history of serving the Newberry community and surrounding areas, maintaining the classic character of its design while supporting modern golf standards.
