The Country Club of Buffalo is an 18-hole golf course designed by Donald Ross in 1926, located on the Onondaga escarpment in Williamsville, New York. The course is distinguished by its incorporation of a historic limestone quarry into six holes, creating a unique landscape characterized by natural rock formations and limestone features. Two signature holes exemplify this distinctive design: the sixth hole, nestled within the quarry itself, and the 18th hole, bordered by a striking natural rock garden.
Since its original construction, the course has undergone refinements by prominent architects including Robert Trent Jones, Geoffrey St. John Cornish, and William Craig Schreiner, enhancing both playability and aesthetics. The dramatic terrain and quarry integration create notable visual appeal and challenging playing conditions throughout the layout.
The Country Club of Buffalo holds significant tournament credentials, having hosted USGA Championships and scheduled to host the 2027 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur and the 2032 U.S. Senior Amateur. Beyond golf, the club offers comprehensive recreational facilities including clay target shooting, swimming, tennis, and winter activities such as ice skating and cross-country skiing.
