Congress Lake Club is an 18-hole golf course in Hartville, Ohio that features 6,459 yards from the longest tees for a par of 71. The original course was set out by Willie Park Jr. in 1923 but within a decade was extensively redesigned by Donald Ross. The club was incorporated as The Congress Lake Club Company in 1896. The course has a rating of 71.3 and a slope rating of 132 on bent grass.
The course plays much as it did when Ross left it in 1926, stretching to just 6,600 yards from the back tees, with well-bunkered greens making those short yards anything but easy. The course is fairly narrow with many tree-lined holes and features small, sloped, and fast greens. A signature feature is the rare par-3 closing hole, playing 165 yards with a green surrounded by seven bunkers.
Ben Hogan once said to Jack Paar on "The Tonight Show" that if he could play only one course for the rest of his life, it would be Congress Lake. The club is a private country club dedicated to providing members, their families and guests with a unique golfing, social and recreational experience in a beautiful lake setting in Northeast Ohio.
