The Chiang Mai Gymkhana Golf Course is a 9-hole, par-36 parkland layout situated on the historic grounds of the Chiang Mai Gymkhana Club. Established in 1898, it is recognized as the oldest golf course in northern Thailand. The course occupies 90 rai of land near the Ping River, a site granted by the Prince of Chiang Mai with the royal blessing of King Rama V specifically for the encouragement of sport. The routing is distinctively non-linear, a design quirk resulting from the original intent to allow golf, polo, and cricket to be played simultaneously on the same grounds. Matured trees line the fairways, serving as both aesthetic features and strategic hazards. The course is maintained to high standards, with the grounds crew ensuring the greens, fairways, and rough are in excellent condition. Historically, the fairways were maintained by grazing cattle rather than machinery, a practice that contributed to the unique character of the layout. The elevation changes and tree-lined fairways create a balance between playability and challenge, offering a fair test for golfers of all ability levels. The club provides a driving range with ten practice positions, a short game area for chipping and pitching, and a pro shop stocked with equipment and apparel. Professional coaching is available for members at all levels. Green fees include caddy services, and the course hosts regular club tournaments, monthly medal competitions, and social events throughout the year. The restaurant veranda overlooking the grounds serves as the traditional post-round gathering place for the golfing community.
