Charnock Richard Golf and Country Club is an 18-hole course established in 1994, situated in the village of Charnock Richard in Lancashire. The layout is set within 140 acres of land, featuring a design that winds through the local landscape with Winter Hill providing a backdrop to the east. The course is characterized by a variety of water hazards and is designed to provide a test for golfers of all skill levels. The course features a distinct layout known as the Blue Course, which begins with a par 3 that presents immediate challenges. This opening hole features a green resting over a hump, situated more than 200 yards away across a sea of heather. The design includes specific difficulties around the green, with trouble to the right and short of the putting surface, as well as hazards to the back left to penalize shots that go long. A defining characteristic of the course is its spiral hole progression, which forces players to navigate past a combination of trees and water features throughout the round. The design utilizes the natural contours of the land to create these challenges, with threats and problems quietly produced from the area's features. This layout has been noted for its ability to test experienced golfers, often resulting in lost balls in the water hazards. The club has a history of hosting corporate events, including a Tesco board member's retreat in 2009 and a shareholder's meeting in 2010. While the course is designed for general play, its layout and facilities have made it a venue for executive gatherings and corporate retreats.
