Saitozaki Seaside Country Club is an 18-hole, par-72 course located in Higashi-ku, Fukuoka, situated on the coast overlooking the Genkai Sea. The course opened on November 3, 1967, and is designed to take advantage of its seaside setting, with views of Shika Island visible across the water. The layout is characterized by relatively short distances for a Japanese course, with a back tee rating of 6,506 yards and a course rating of 71.1. The terrain is coastal, and the design requires precise shot-making due to the influence of wind typical of the area. The front nine presents a mix of long par-5s and shorter par-4s, including a 498-yard 1st hole and a 510-yard 9th hole. The 9th hole is noted for its difficulty, featuring an out-of-bounds line along the left side that runs the length of the hole, demanding accuracy throughout the shot. The back nine introduces water hazards, with the 14th and 15th holes requiring tee shots over water. The closing stretch of 16, 17, and 18 is described as the definitive challenge of the round, requiring careful play to protect any advantage gained earlier in the round. The 17th hole is identified as the signature hole of the course. It is a 445-yard par-4 that serves as a key test for golfers. The 18th hole provides a strong finish as a 533-yard par-5. The course demands strategic decision-making, particularly regarding wind direction and speed, which are significant factors given its exposure to the sea. The combination of out-of-bounds penalties, water hazards, and wind conditions creates a layout that tests accuracy and course management rather than just distance.
