Located in Tamba City, Hyogo Prefecture, Hikami Country Club is an 18-hole, par 72 golf course designed by the renowned architect Toshiro Nakamura. The course is characterized by its relatively flat, wooded terrain, a layout style that is uncommon in the Kansai region. Situated in a natural environment that offers clear air and a sense of seclusion from the nearby urban centers of Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe, the grounds are known for their spring blooms of cherry blossoms and azaleas. The course features a mix of par 3, 4, and 5 holes, with yardages varying significantly depending on the tee boxes used. For regular tees, the front nine measures 3,228 yards and the back nine 3,087 yards, totaling 6,315 yards. The longest holes are the par-5 4th and 11th, which measure 482 and 512 yards respectively from the regular tees. The par-3s provide a stark contrast in distance, ranging from the short 13th at 171 yards to the demanding 7th at 208 yards. Handicap distribution highlights the strategic challenges of the layout. The 4th hole is rated as the easiest at handicap 1, while the 13th is the most difficult at handicap 18. The 11th hole follows closely as the second most difficult at handicap 2. The course utilizes both Bentgrass and Ultra Dwarf Bermuda grass, with the latter offering shorter yardages for play, particularly on the back nine where the regular Ultra Dwarf tees reduce the total length to 5,573 yards. Hikami Country Club is currently closed for an extended period, with announcements indicating a planned reopening in late 2026. Despite the closure, the course remains a notable example of Nakamura’s design work in the region, preserving its reputation for a gentle, natural playing experience that has historically attracted golfers seeking a respite from the busy metropolitan areas.
