The course was designed by Rokuro Akaboshi, who is described as having realized his own dreams and ideals through the creation of the facility. The club has been in operation for over 90 years, having opened on the previously barren land of the Sagano field during the early Showa era. The layout is characterized by its challenging bunkers, which are noted as being among the toughest in Japan. The course features specific signature holes that highlight the design's character, with the fourth, eighth, tenth, and eighteenth holes identified as notable features for players to study. As a private club, Sagami Country Club maintains strict dress codes and manners for its members and guests.
