Raon Private CC is a 27-hole golf facility located in Han-gyeong-myeon, Jeju City, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, South Korea. The course is situated within a natural subtropical forest area and is divided into three distinct nine-hole loops: the Stone Course, the Lake Course, and the Pine Course. Designed by Colin Montgomerie, the layout preserves the original natural terrain, with each loop offering unique characteristics and views. The facility hosted the 2004 MBC Raon Construction Invitational, a tournament that featured notable players including Tiger Woods, Colin Montgomerie, K.J. Choi, and Se Ri Pak. The Stone Course is characterized by dogleg holes and strategic bunkering. The first hole, a relatively short dogleg par 4, requires precise tee shots due to side bunkers on the left and right. The green is surrounded by four bunkers and slopes downward from the fairway, demanding accurate iron play and careful approach shots. The design emphasizes accuracy and strategic placement to navigate the tight fairways and protected greens. The Lake Course offers expansive views from the tee boxes and features a downhill par 5 on the first hole. This hole, known as the Colin Montgomerie Hole, is a dogleg right where players must balance distance with wind conditions. The green is guarded by bunkers on the left and right, with limited space for error. Montgomerie famously sank a chip-in from the front edge of this green to secure a birdie and win a skin during the 2004 invitational, cementing the hole's legacy. The Pine Course provides open views of the green and distant Mount Geonchul. The first hole is a downhill par 5 with a narrow fairway due to a right-side bunker, creating a visually challenging approach. Long hitters may attempt to reach the green in two, but two bunkers on the front right protect the putting surface. The peanut-shaped green slopes toward the center, requiring precise distance control and strategic hole placement awareness.
