Located in Chiba City, Takanodai Country Club is a 7,132-yard, par-72 championship course designed by Seiichi Inoue. The layout is defined by its strategic demands and varied terrain, featuring multiple sets of tees to accommodate different skill levels. The course utilizes both Bentgrass and Korean Bentgrass greens, with the latter offering a distinct challenge on the back nine. The front nine presents a rigorous test, highlighted by the 5th hole, a par-4 that serves as the course's most difficult hole. This hole requires a precise drive to avoid right-side bunkers, followed by a second shot that must navigate a green sloping from front to back. The 6th hole, a par-5, is another key strategic challenge, featuring a two-tiered green on the Bentgrass setup and a prominent mound on the fairway that dictates tee shot placement. The back nine continues the test with the 14th hole, a demanding par-5 that ranks as the second most difficult hole on the course. The layout is punctuated by several par-3s, including the 13th, which is the longest par-3 at 171 yards from the back tees. The course is known for its wide fairways and the strategic placement of bunkers that penalize inaccurate approaches. Takanodai Country Club holds a significant place in Japanese golf history, having hosted the Japan Open Golf Championship four times in 1958, 1961, 2000, and 2011. The club was originally established in 1930 and reopened in its current form in 1954 after being closed during World War II. The course is often described as a "spacious hall for a good family," reflecting its open and strategic design that rewards thoughtful play over brute force.
