Castlerea Golf Club was founded in 1905, originally located on the Ballymoe Road before relocating to its present site at Clonalis in 1907. The club has a distinguished history of producing accomplished golfers. Notable members include Bertie Briscoe, who won the West of Ireland Championship in 1928 and 1931, and Rupert de Lacy Staunton, South of Ireland champion in 1965 and 1972, who represented Ireland and captained the Irish team. Audrey O'Donoghue represented Ireland from 1948 to 1953 and later became Irish team captain. The club is also proud to count Leona Maguire among its honorary members.
The course provides a challenge for golfers of all levels, featuring recently redeveloped greens complexes at holes 3 and 6. The layout incorporates the rolling terrain of County Roscommon, with the course benefiting from ongoing maintenance and development initiatives. The club maintains a strong commitment to junior golf development and welcomes visitors and societies throughout the golfing year.
