Castle Course at Lahinch Golf Club is a links course set along the Corcass, a scenic stretch of land beside the tidal River Inagh in County Clare, Ireland. The course winds through tranquil terrain, offering a charming blend of challenging and agreeable holes that loop around the northern tip where golfers encounter the striking remains of Dough Castle, which provides a dramatic backdrop to the 7th hole.
The course is renowned for the consistent quality and speed of its greens, comparable to world-class links courses. Golfers are surrounded by natural features including the river, tidal plains, and diverse wildlife habitats. The landscape is dominated by the 14th-century Dough Castle, originally founded by the O'Connors in 1306 and steeped in local folklore. The castle's Irish name, 'Dumhach Ui Chonchuir,' translates to O'Connor's Sandbank, and the surrounding sandhills are said to be haunted by Donn Dumhach, the Fairy King.
Despite its challenging layout, the idyllic setting of Castle Course creates a relaxed atmosphere where golfers are less perturbed by imperfect scores than they might be on less picturesque courses. The course offers an exceptional golfing experience enhanced by its historical and natural significance.
