Carterton Golf Club was established in 1911 and relocated to its current location at Chester Road, Clareville in 1947. The 18-hole course is set against the foothills of the Tararua ranges in Wairapara. The course began as a 13-hole layout when officially opened on 31 May 1947, expanding to 18 holes by 1952. Since 1979, the course has undergone significant changes with holes being lengthened and renumbered to evolve its challenge. The club has a notable history of women's participation, with records showing 58 women members in 1930 compared to 42 men. The course features a clubhouse that opened in 1965, and the facility now offers various services including clubhouse hire and motorhome parking. The scenic setting against the Tararua foothills provides an attractive natural backdrop for play.
