Founded in 1972 by former Dallas Mayor Robert S. Folsom, Bent Tree Country Club is situated in North Dallas and was designed as a private retreat. Renowned golf course architect Desmond Muirhead transformed 200 acres of former cotton fields and pastureland into a championship course. The course is a par 71 layout that plays 5,603 yards from the red tees to 7,081 yards from the black tees, providing challenge across multiple skill levels. Water comes into play on 14 of 18 holes, emphasizing precision and accuracy throughout the round.
The course underwent improvements in 1990 that focused on the front nine with additional bunkering, tree additions, and green adjustments, while the back nine retains more of Muirhead's original character. The signature hole is No. 3 on the front, a long par 5 playing almost 600 yards with a narrow fairway between water on the left and bunkers on the right.
The course has hosted prestigious tournaments including the LPGA Mary Kay Classic and PGA Seniors Reunion Tournaments, with champions including Nancy Lopez, Jan Stephenson, Peter Thompson, and Chi Chi Rodriguez. The club remains a private members-only facility with year-round play opportunities.
