Beech Creek Golf Club is nested in the historic "High Hills of the Santee" and opened for play in 1989. Designed by architect Ron Goodson, the 18-hole course features 6,805 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The golf course is located on the site of "The Battle of Beech Creek" and is one of the most scenic pieces of property in Sumter County, with elevation changes which allow for views that go on for miles. Located 3 miles from Shaw AFB, 10 minutes from Sumter and 35 minutes from downtown Columbia, Beech Creek has easy access to I-20 and US 378/76.
Built by architect Ron Goodson in Sumter's High Hills area, Beech Creek features tight, tree-lined fairways on some holes and wide-open vistas marked by sweeping elevation changes on others. The result is a variety that challenges players to demonstrate accuracy, length and - thanks to quick, undulating greens - precision in order to score well. The course weaves through preserved wetlands, while elevation changes and some open countryside are also on the menu. The course features notable front-nine holes including the par-3 second, playing over water with a steep slope guarding the right side, and the par-4 eighth, which sweeps downhill and left to a mounded, well-bunkered green, with its most challenging stretch being its four-hole finish.
