Located in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, Beaconsfield Golf Club is a private 18-hole course with a par of 71 and a total length of 6,572 yards. Situated in the heart of Montreal's West Island, the layout is built upon the remnants of a former limestone quarry, a geological history that has left distinct traces throughout the property. The course is recognized as a competitive venue in Canada, offering a challenging environment for golfers of varying skill levels. The design is attributed to the legendary architect Stanley Thompson, who completed a significant re-design of the course in 1941. This work built upon an earlier layout from 1910, creating a vintage yet modernized routing that has become a hallmark of the club's identity. The course is part of the Audubon International program, reflecting a commitment to environmental stewardship and the preservation of the natural landscape surrounding the fairways. The terrain presents significant strategic challenges, characterized by severe slopes, deep bunkers, and water hazards. The front nine is often cited as the more difficult section, featuring holes like "Hoodoo," a long par-4 that demands precision off the tee to avoid a lake and a magnetic clump of trees before reaching an elevated green. The layout includes four distinct plateau holes, starting with "The Grand Trunk," which requires a long drive to avoid a well-placed bunker on the right and out-of-bounds areas. Signature holes define the character of the course. "The Gap" is a par-4 that forces players through a tunnel underneath an autoroute, leading to a severely sloping green that tests approach shots. "Faraway," the longest hole on the course stretching over 600 yards from the back tees, requires three well-struck shots and is flanked by an Audubon-protected area on the right. The "Oasis" par-3 presents a long tee shot to a small, fast green protected by large bunkers, while "The Corner" demands a straight drive and a long approach into a cozy, bunker-protected green. Water features and out-of-bounds areas play a critical role in scoring. The "Pond" hole forces players to carefully calculate distance to avoid an unintentional swim, while the "Lakeview" hole offers a downslope drive but punishes errant shots with chips from the side. The course also features the "Highball" par-3, which is distinguished by severe slopes on and around the green despite its shorter length. These elements combine to create a layout that is both visually striking and technically demanding.
