Asta Golf Course is Scotland's most northerly 9-hole golf course, established in 1992 and located in the Shetland Isles between Tingwall and Asta Lochs. Built on flat farmland in the tranquil Tingwall Valley, the course offers an accessible setting suitable for both beginners and experienced golfers. Each hole features individual character, accommodating both long hitters and those seeking challenging play.
The course employs a unique system of switching tees mid-month to create two distinct layouts. The Classic course features a signature shortest hole of only 58 yards, visible flag only from the tee, while the New Course includes a longest hole of 400 yards. The peaceful setting provides scenic surroundings, with abundant wildlife including swans, oystercatchers, Arctic terns, and Shetland ponies, alongside seasonal wildflowers that add color throughout the year.
Asta operates as an unmanned, visitor-friendly facility with no pre-booking required for groups under 10 players. Golf club hire, including left-handed and children's sets, is available at the clubhouse. The course is managed by the third generation of the Leask family and maintains environmental stewardship practices to protect the surrounding lochs and natural habitat.
