Aroostook Valley Country Club is an 18-hole, semi-private golf course located in Four Falls, New Brunswick, situated directly on the international border between Maine and Canada. The course is set in a rural landscape overlooking the Aroostook River, with the terrain characterized by dramatic hills and rolling land that provides views of the valley below. The unique routing divides the course between the two countries, with the clubhouse and parking lot positioned on opposite sides of the boundary line. This distinctive layout allows players to tee off on holes such as the first, second, and ninth, with the potential to hit shots across the border. The course was originally established as a nine-hole layout in 1929, founded during the Prohibition era when borderland golf clubs were popular in the United States. The design was expanded to 18 holes in 1960 under the direction of renowned architect Howard K. Watson, who redesigned the original nine holes. The layout features flattish sand traps reminiscent of its era and greens that are rarely level, often tilted and contoured to challenge players. The course is known for its challenging guesswork due to the uneven surfaces and the physical demands of the uphill and downhill routing. Notable features include the international boundary markers that run through the course, with white obelisks serving as border markers every few hundred feet. The double green at the ninth and 18th holes displays both the American and Canadian flags, symbolizing the club's unique binational character. The club hosts the St. John Valley Open annually during Labor Day weekend, an amateur tournament that attracts players of diverse ages and skill levels. The course has also hosted professional players, including Sammy Snead, Babe Zaharius, and Wayne Levi.
