American Lake Veterans Golf Course

American Lake Veterans Golf Course is a nine-hole golf course located on the grounds of the VA Hospital in Lakewood, Washington, approximately one hour south of Seattle. Situated on 377 acres, the course was added to the hospital campus in the mid-1950s following World War II. Originally designed as a place of relief rather than rehabilitation, the course later became an important therapeutic resource for veterans recovering from various injuries and combat-related conditions.

The course experienced significant decline after 1995 when federal funding for VA golf courses was withdrawn. Through volunteer efforts and the establishment of a non-profit organization in 2003, the course has been restored to serve its mission of providing rehabilitation, therapy, and socialization support to veterans with physical and psychological wounds. The course continues to play a vital role in veteran wellness and mental health support, offering a therapeutic recreational outlet for those returning from active service with severe injuries or trauma.
