Murou 36 Golf Club is located in Nara Prefecture, Japan, near the Murou and Takaraike areas. Opened in 1975, the facility features two separate 18-hole courses designed by Jack Nicklaus, totaling 36 holes. The club is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary.
The Murou Course is a par 72 that plays from back tees measuring 6,901 yards with a course rating of 73.0 and a slope of 136. It is described as a test of a golfer's comprehensive ability. Notable holes include the 618-yard 3rd par-5, the 592-yard 15th par-5, the 563-yard 16th par-5, and the 383-yard 18th. The course also features demanding par-4s such as the 464-yard 1st hole and the 420-yard 9th hole.
The Takaraike Course is also a par 72, with back tees measuring 6,605 yards, a course rating of 70.6, and a slope of 136. This course requires a five-minute bus ride from the clubhouse to the starting tee. It is characterized by strategic elements requiring precise shot-making. Notable holes include the 530-yard 5th par-5, the 521-yard 13th par-5, the 454-yard 16th par-4, and the 422-yard 18th. The course includes a 147-yard 2nd par-3.
Both courses offer multiple tee options, including blue, white, and regular tees, catering to different handicaps. The design reflects Nicklaus's signature style, focusing on strategic play and accuracy across the varied terrain of the Nara region.
