Pike Hills Golf Club

York, North Yorkshire, England

Pike Hills Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland course located near York, England, situated approximately 2 miles southwest of the city center off the A64. The course measures 6,212 yards with a par of 71. Established in 1904 as Knavesmire Golf Club, it relocated to its current site in 1946. The layout features tree-lined fairways built around Askham Nature Reserve, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) managed by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. The course incorporates natural wildlife habitats, with deer, squirrels, rabbits, and various bird species frequently visible during play. The design presents a challenging variety of holes with differing lengths of par 4s, par 5s, and par 3s, requiring strategic course management and precise shot-making. Water hazards include two ponds and a dyke running from Askham Bog that impacts multiple holes. The course is notably characterized by demanding greens, described as some of the trickiest in northern England, which reward skilled putting. The combination of varied hole lengths, water hazards, and challenging green complexes makes Pike Hills suitable for golfers of all abilities while maintaining genuine difficulty. The parkland setting and nature reserve integration create a distinctive playing experience within the Yorkshire landscape.
