The Ryder Cup is a team matchplay competition held at The Golf Club of Illinois. The event consists of three 9-hole matches: Fourball (better ball), Foursomes (alternate shot), and Singles (individual matches). Teams are selected by the reigning club champions. The entry fee is $75, which covers a shirt, prizes for the winning team, and lunch. Green fees and cart costs are additional. Sign-ups are handled in person at the Golf Shop, with a deadline of August 23rd. The target number of players is 24, though this has been exceeded in previous years. Players may sign up with a playing partner to form a team; otherwise, they will be drafted.

Notable tournament history includes hosting the 1990 Illinois Open Championship, won by Gary Pinns, who was the only player to break par. Known for its challenging design, the course incorporates fairways, water hazards, and sand traps positioned to test accuracy and strategic play. Since its establishment, the Golf Club of Illinois has developed a reputation as a favored destination for golfers seeking a unique and demanding round.
