The Stroke Play Open 2026 is the fourth tournament in the sport-oriented Stroke Play Tournament Series at Golf-Club Hohenstaufen, held on Sunday 26 July 2026. The series is now in its 12th year and includes an Eclectic competition across the five events. Each tournament is played as an individual strokeplay (Zählspiel) over 18 holes, with play according to the official Golf Rules (including Amateur Statute) of the DGV e.V., the competition conditions of the BWGV, and the course rules of the host club. The competition is handicap-relevant, using the EGA handicap system (HCPI). The maximum handicap index is 36. Active players of Golf-Club Hohenstaufen and members of clubs affiliated to the DGV are eligible to participate. Guests are warmly welcome. Tee times start from Tee 1 from 9:00 AM, with pairings based on handicap. The maximum number of participants is 96; if more entries are received, earlier entry date decides, with lower Stammvorgabe as a tiebreaker. A waiting list is maintained if needed. The starting fee is €20 for GCH members, €10 for youth (up to 18), and €65 for guests (including green fee and round refreshment). Payment is cash only. The minimum number of participants is 20. Prizes are awarded for Brutto (1st, 2nd, 3rd, ladies and gentlemen combined) and Netto (1st, 2nd, 3rd in handicap classes A and B). The tournaments are generously supported by the Allianz general agency Göppingen (holders Dennis Berger and Jochen Weiler). Registration is available via the Albatros Mobile App, golf.de, by phone, email, or the notice board in the clubhouse. Entry closes Saturday 25 July 2026 at 12:00; late entries are not accepted.

Venue

Bahn 16

Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Bahn 16, known as the "Rose without Thorn," is the 16th hole at the Golf-Club Hohenstaufen e.V. in Donzdorf, situated on the Swabian Alb in Baden-Württemberg. As the final par 5 on the course, it serves as a concluding test of the parkland layout, offering views of the surrounding landscape that highlight the character of the facility. The hole plays as a dogleg left, requiring a precise and long drive into the bend to set up a successful approach shot toward the green. The fairway is tightly constrained, bordered by the Reichenbach stream on the right and a forest on the left, demanding accurate placement off the tee. The approach to the green presents a significant challenge, as the target is guarded by water to the right, a bunker to the left, and out-of-bounds behind the putting surface. The hole is named in reference to Irene of Byzanz, the daughter of Emperor Isaac II Angelos and Queen of the Hohenstaufen dynasty, who was buried in the nearby Lorch monastery church after her tragic death in 1208.
