36-hole medal strokeplay open competition for men, qualifying event for the Surrey County Golf Union Order of Merit. Open to male amateurs with an active playing handicap of 9.0 or lower who are members of an affiliated golf club. Minimum age 16 on the day of the event. Entries limited to 54 players; in the event of oversubscription, a ballot will be held for the lowest handicaps. Entry fee: £95 for visitors, £50 for members. Closing date for entries: 11th September 2026. Refunds only given for withdrawals up to 7 days before the event. Includes coffee and breakfast roll on arrival, one-course lunch, and sandwiches & chips before prize giving. The player with the best gross score over 36 holes wins the Downs Trophy, held for one year. In the event of a tie for the Downs Trophy, a sudden-death play-off takes place on the 1st hole; if insufficient light, the winner is decided by countback. All other ties decided by countback over last 18, 9, 6, 3 holes. No player may win more than one prize. Players must be present at the prize giving to qualify for a prize. The club reserves the right to refuse entry.


Prizes

Winner of the best gross score over 36 holes retains the Downs Trophy for one year. Handicap prizes also awarded.
