The Federação Portuguesa de Golfe (FPG) serves as the national governing body for golf in Portugal, founded in 1949 as a private non-profit association of public utility. The federation oversees both amateur and professional golf development, administers the World Handicap System for Portuguese golfers, manages national team programs, and organizes championship competitions throughout the country. Members access federation services through affiliated golf clubs or via individual online registration for those without club membership. The FPG operates the Centro Nacional de Formação de Golfe (CNFG) at Jamor, which features an 18-hole golf course, driving range with TopTracer technology, and serves as the national training center. The federation organizes prestigious international amateur championships including the Portuguese International Amateur Championship and Portuguese International Ladies Amateur Championship, which attract competitors from multiple countries. Additional competitive structures include mid-amateur circuits, youth development programs through the Drive Tour and Drive Challenge initiatives, and pitch & putt competitions. Development programs include the "9 Semanas & 1/2" (9 Weeks & 1/2) beginner course offered at clubs nationwide, providing accessible entry into golf through structured group lessons over approximately two months. The federation manages both professional and amateur national team selections, operates a coaching certification system for academies, and provides comprehensive handicap services including online score submission and course rating systems.
