Forest of Arden Country Club

Warwickshire

Forest of Arden Hotel & Country Club is a 36-hole resort facility situated at Meriden, Warwickshire, set within 10,000 acres of Lord Aylesford's Packington Park estate, approximately 30 minutes from Birmingham city centre and close to the NEC and Birmingham Airport. The Arden Course is the championship layout, playing to par 72 over 7,213 yards from the back tees. Originally designed by Donald Steel and opened in 1970, it was significantly redesigned in 1992. The course is set among mature oak woodland, with the back nine particularly characterised by ancient oaks and a natural deer park. Water hazards feature throughout, most notably at the par-3 8th - where water guards the green on two sides - the par-5 17th, where bunker and lake tightly protect the approach, and the signature closing hole, a demanding par three requiring a full carry across a lake. The front nine opens relatively gently before tightening considerably from the 6th hole onwards. The Arden has hosted multiple European Tour events, including the English Open (1993-97, 2000-02, and 2020 as the Hero Open) and the British Masters (1997-99, 2003). Tournament champions on the course include Ian Woosnam, Colin Montgomerie, and Darren Clarke. The Aylesford Course is a par-69 layout of 5,801 yards, featuring tighter fairways, smaller greens, and more tree influence than the Arden. Its closing hole - a par three of over 200 yards played across a ravine - mirrors the drama of the Arden's finish.
