Kawagoe Country Club is a 27-hole facility located in Oyama, Higashimatsuyama City, Saitama Prefecture, Japan. The course is divided into three distinct nine-hole layouts: the Naka Course, the West Course, and the East Course. Each nine-hole loop plays to a par of 36, resulting in a total course par of 108. The Naka Course is designed by Toritsu Nakamura and is characterized by the natural topography of the land, offering a championship-level challenge. The West Course features relatively flat holes and is noted for its accessibility to golfers of all skill levels, while the East Course demands accuracy and is considered suitable for women and senior players. The Naka Course, often regarded as the flagship layout, presents a rigorous test with significant elevation changes and water hazards. The front nine includes a demanding opening hole, a downhill par 5, and several par 4s that require precise approach shots to elevated or sloped greens. The back nine features multiple water carries, including a par 3 and a par 4 that cross ponds, as well as a par 3 protected by a large bunker. The course design incorporates out-of-bounds areas and steep drop-offs, particularly on the par 4 9th hole, where the left side falls away sharply. The West Course is defined by its narrow fairways and extensive out-of-bounds protection. It features several par 4s and par 5s that require careful navigation around trees and bunkers. Notable challenges include a long par 5 with a water hazard at 300 yards and a par 3 that is surrounded by out-of-bounds on the left and rear. The layout includes playing four options for certain holes where water or out-of-bounds conditions apply, adding strategic complexity to the round. The East Course offers a different strategic test, focusing on accuracy over distance. It features a mix of downhill and uphill holes, with several par 4s and par 5s that dogleg. The front nine includes a par 3 with a two-tiered green protected by a pond, and a par 5 that requires a careful second shot to an elevated green. The back nine features a long par 5 with a water hazard on the right side of the fairway and a par 3 that is short but demanding due to the green's slope and surrounding bunkers. The course is designed to reward precise iron play and putting, making it a favorite among those who prefer a more controlled style of golf. The club has a long history, with records dating back to 1963, 1965, 1970, 1985, and 1992, indicating its establishment and evolution over several decades. The facility is located in a hilly region, utilizing the natural terrain to create varied hole designs. The course is maintained with Bentgrass on the greens and fairways, providing consistent playing conditions. The layout is designed to accommodate both caddie-assisted and self-play options, with specific routing rules allowing players to combine courses, such as playing the East Course and then the Naka Course.
