Alton Golf Club, founded in 1908, is a 9-hole par 68 parkland course located in North-East Hampshire near Alton. Designed by renowned golf architect James Braid, a five-time Open champion known for prestigious courses like Gleneagles, the course features nine greens with eighteen separate tees to provide varying challenges. The layout measures 5,622 yards and winds through rolling hills of the Hampshire countryside.
While modest in length, the course presents a genuine test through its undulating terrain and strategic hole design. Golfers must navigate precise tee shots as the course meanders through the picturesque landscape, making it challenging for players of all abilities. The mature parkland setting with woodland elements creates an engaging experience throughout the round.
In 2012, the membership voted to establish the club as a Sports Charity to protect the course from development, with the aim of providing an excellent golf experience to the local Alton community and surrounding areas.
