Wildwood Golf Club features an 18-hole course with 6,641 yards and a par of 72, designed by Emil Loeffler and John McGlynn and opened in 1929. The course has a rating of 73.1 and a slope rating of 136. Located just north of Pittsburgh in Allison Park, the club is a private golf facility. The property sits 12 miles north of downtown Pittsburgh on rolling countryside that was previously owned and farmed by the Herr family since the 1840s.
Designer Emil "Dutch" Loeffler was the head pro and golf superintendent at Oakmont Country Club and designed over 20 courses during his career. The course offers challenging play for golfers at every skill level, with well-groomed fairways and greens that balance difficulty with playability. A historic landmark on the property is the Herr Chapel Cemetery, situated near the 12th tee.
During its early years, Wildwood hosted major golf tournaments including the Dapper Dan Open, which attracted professional golfers such as Ralph Guldahl, Gene Sarazen, Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan. Ralph Guldahl won the championship with the largest purse of any tournament that year, besting Gene Sarazen and Denny Shute in an 18-hole Monday playoff, which remains the only three-way playoff in PGA history where all three participants had won at least three major championships.
