Whitetail Run Golf Course is an 18-hole public championship course located four miles north of Wadena, Minnesota, on U.S. Highway 71. The layout is divided into two distinct nines with separate histories. The front nine, consisting of tree-lined fairways and multiple elevation changes, was first developed in 1926. The back nine, which opened for play in August 1996, was designed in a links style to complement the original layout. The course features three sets of tees on all 18 holes, ranging from 2,600 to 3,100 yards, and includes senior tees. The front nine requires precise tee shots to avoid the trees and reach well-bunkered, tree-protected greens. The back nine introduces risk-reward dynamics, particularly from the 10th tee, where golfers can choose between aggressive drives that may leave short irons into the green or conservative shots that result in more challenging approach shots. This side of the course features water hazards and offers numerous picturesque views. The greens on both nines are cut to a board-specified height to ensure uniform speed and predictable roll. A spacious practice facility located below the clubhouse supports play on the course. The driving range features a large tee box that accommodates multiple players while maintaining privacy. Mounded flag areas are set at 100, 150, and 200 yards to assist with long iron and fairway wood practice, while a landing area extends beyond 300 yards for driver practice. A green-side bunker is situated near the fifth tee box for short game work, and token-operated dispensers provide range balls.
