Westmoreland Country Club, founded in 1911 in Wilmette, Illinois, is an 18-hole private golf course built on 128 acres selected for its ideal drainage properties. The original course was designed by William Watson in 1912 and has undergone significant evolution, including a major redesign by William Langford and A.W. Tillinghast in 1920-1921. Arthur Hills supervised extensive renovations in 1993, during which ponds were added to holes 8, 13, 15, and 17.
The course has hosted numerous prestigious tournaments, including the 1917 Western Open (won by Jim Barnes), the 1921 Western Amateur (won by Chick Evans), and the 1938 U.S.G.A. Women's Amateur Championship, where 20-year-old Patty Berg claimed her first national title. The course has challenged legendary players including Bobby Jones, Walter Hagen, and Frances Ouimet.
The Colonial Williamsburg clubhouse, built in 1912, remains a defining architectural feature. Beyond golf, the club offers comprehensive facilities including tennis courts with lighting, swimming pools, skeet shooting, and year-round social activities, maintaining its status as a traditional country club while adapting to modern member needs.
