Weequahic Golf Course is an 18-hole public course originally designed by George Lowe, the then-pro at Baltusrol, and opened in 1914, making it the oldest public golf course in New Jersey. Located in Newark on the shoreline of Weequahic Park alongside a 200-acre lake, the course features rolling topography with scenic views including One World Trade and the Anheuser building.
The layout presents moderate length with tight fairways, significant elevation changes, and small greens that challenge golfers of all skill levels, requiring use of the full arsenal of clubs. The course combines accessibility for beginners with enough complexity to test experienced players. As of September 2024, the course underwent a comprehensive renovation through Summer 2025, including new greens, tees, bunkers, and updated routing to enhance playability. The course has hosted notable tournaments including the NJSGA Public Links Championship and been recognized among America's best value courses under $100. Conveniently accessible from major highways, Weequahic offers excellent value golf in a historic setting within an urban park environment.
