Waratah Golf Club, located at Argenton near Lake Macquarie in New South Wales, is an 18-hole championship course with a rich heritage dating back to 1901, making it the first golf club in the Newcastle/Lake Macquarie region. Originally established at Dangar Park in Waratah, Newcastle, the club relocated to its current lakeside location at Cockle Creek in 1921, where the course and clubhouse were officially opened on December 3rd, 1921.

The course is set in a picturesque landscape near the shores of Lake Macquarie, featuring mature trees planted since the 1920s that provide character and definition to the layout. The club has maintained high tournament standards, hosting significant events including the International Children's Games in 2014, which attracted approximately 1,500 junior players from multiple nations and Australian states. Notable competitions include the W.E. Alexander Open (Vardon event), which reflects the club's competitive tradition.

The course has undergone continuous improvements, including a comprehensive Master Course Plan initiated in 2007 to modernize the layout for the 21st century. The club recovered from significant natural disasters, including the 2007 Pasha Bulker storm and floods. With over a century of continuous operation, Waratah Golf Club remains a premier golfing destination in regional New South Wales.
