Valparaiso Country Club, located three miles north of Valparaiso, Indiana, was founded in 1921 on an 80-acre farm. The club initially featured a temporary 9-hole course completed in 1922, designed and constructed by charter member Harlow Smith with support from local businesses. The permanent 18-hole course was completed in 1924, incorporating Smith's innovative green planting techniques and strategic trap placement.
In 1961, golf course architect John Darrah, ASGCA, redesigned the original nine holes and added a second nine, modernizing the layout while preserving its character. The course is situated on rolling terrain typical of northern Indiana, offering a classic country club experience.
The club has hosted notable figures in golf history, including Harold "Mush" March, who served as head professional from 1937 to 1940 while simultaneously playing as a right winger for the Chicago Blackhawks. The course remains an active 18-hole facility supporting leagues, tournaments, and junior golf programs, with an on-site pro shop and dining facilities.
