Toshoen Golf Club is an 18-hole, Par 72 course (6,682 yards) located in Ashikaga, Tochigi Prefecture, designed by Iwao Nakajima and opened in 1989. The course is situated on a south-facing slope approximately 1 hour 10 minutes from central Tokyo, offering excellent accessibility from the Sano-Fujioka Interchange on the Tohoku Expressway.
The defining characteristic of Toshoen is its integration of Japanese garden aesthetics with golf course design. The layout incorporates rare specimen trees from across Japan, waterfalls, ponds, and large stones throughout the routing. This distinctive approach was unconventional when the course was built, contrasting with the American-style courses that dominated that era.
The course features a notably flat design, intentionally created to minimize fatigue for players of all ages and abilities. Multiple holes offer panoramic views overlooking the Kanto Plain, with Mount Fuji visible in the distance. The seamless blend of landscaping elements creates a visually striking environment that changes with the seasons while maintaining playability for long-term member enjoyment.
