Toga Country Club is a 27-hole facility located in Tochigi, Japan, situated just seven minutes from the Tochigi Interchange. The course is divided into three distinct nine-hole layouts: the West Course, the North Course, and the East Course. Established over 55 years ago, the grounds are characterized by mature trees and varied terrain that offers a refreshing environment for play. The club gained recognition as a prestigious venue by hosting the 45th Kanto Open Championship in 1994. The West Course features a mix of challenging par-4s and par-5s, including a signature par-5 fifth hole known for its dramatic downhill tee shot and a demanding uphill second shot. The ninth hole on this layout is particularly noted for its notorious cross bunker on the right side, which captures shots aimed at the center-right of the fairway. The course also includes a par-3 fourth hole with an OB line to the right, requiring precise tee shots to avoid trouble. The North Course presents a different set of challenges, starting with a long par-4 first hole that offers a wide fairway but requires careful management of the second shot on a slight downslope. The fifth hole on the North Course is highlighted for its scenic downhill views and expansive landing areas, though players must guard against overshooting the green. The layout generally encourages strategic play, with several holes featuring uphill approaches and blind shots that test distance control. Throughout the 27 holes, the terrain varies significantly, with many holes featuring downhill tee shots that allow for longer drives, while others require uphill approaches that can lead to mishits if players are not careful. The course is designed to reward accurate driving and strategic course management, with numerous bunkers and elevation changes adding to the difficulty. The mature tree canopy and undulating fairways contribute to a classic links-style challenge that has stood the test of time since its opening.
