The North Country Golf Club is an 18-hole championship course located in Chitose, Hokkaido, just 15 minutes from New Chitose Airport. Designed by renowned Japanese golfer Isao Aoki as his masterpiece, the course blends Scottish traditions with modern American design methodology.
As Japan's first all-bent grass course, it features a relatively flat layout with only five meters of elevation change, showcasing the natural terrain. The course emphasizes strategic shot-making through depth and routing options rather than artificial hazards. Eight water features are integrated throughout, with the final three holes notably featuring water as a prominent design element.
The course demands strong course management skills and mental toughness from players. Eight water features create exciting, challenging conditions, particularly toward the finish. Aoki incorporated elements inspired by Augusta National and St. Andrews, creating a world-class layout that combines championship difficulty with spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The carpet-like fairways and strategic bunkering require careful shot selection, making it a true test of golf for players of all skill levels.
