Frankfort Commons Golf Course, designed in 1926, is an 18-hole course located in Frankfort, Indiana, within the city parks system. Originally established as an exclusive country club facility, it has evolved into a public course serving players throughout the state.
The course features a traditional layout with a mix of par 3s, par 4s, and par 5s, presenting moderate challenge with strategic hazards. Notable design elements include water features such as creeks and drainage ditches that come into play on multiple holes, strategically placed bunkers, and tree-lined fairways that demand accuracy. The terrain varies throughout, with elevated tees on several holes and undulating greens that require careful approach play.
Key characteristics include several signature holes: the par 5 ninth hole, designated as the course's number one handicap hole, which plays uphill for much of its length; the par 4 eighteenth, described as one of the biggest holes with significant elevation change and a challenging finishing green; and multiple water carries including the par 3 second hole. The course incorporates natural drainage features and woodland settings typical of early 20th-century design. Under new management since 2020, the facility continues to serve as an integral community golf venue.
