The James River Course is one of three golf courses operated by The Country Club of Virginia, a private club founded in 1908. Located at the James River Campus in Richmond, Virginia, the course is situated within a comprehensive club facility that spans two campuses seven miles apart.

The James River Course has gained prominence as host of the Dominion Energy Charity Classic, a PGA TOUR Champions Charles Schwab Cup Playoff Event, since 2016. The course also hosted significant USGA championships, including the Men's Amateur Championships in 1955 and 1975, demonstrating its competitive standing and design quality.
