The Classic at Madden's is an 18-hole, par-72 course with six tee options ranging from 4,859 to 7,102 yards. The course was designed by course superintendent Scott Hoffmann in consultation with veteran course architect Geoff Cornish. Located near Brainerd on Gull Lake in northern Minnesota, the course is part of Madden's on Gull Lake, which has been a leader in Minnesota golf resorts since 1926.

The Classic features challenging terrain with rolling hills, narrow pine-lined fairways, and occasional water hazards from sidehill or downhill lies. The course includes over 50 sand traps filled with white sand and water hazards on 15 of 18 holes. The design offers a classic golf experience with an early to mid-century parkland country club feel, featuring grass stretching from the tee to the putting surface with minimal forced carries, giving it a more mature appearance than many newer courses.

The Classic is rated in America's Top 100 Greatest Public Courses (#80 in 2025) by Golf Digest and Top 200 Resort Courses (#76 in 2025) by Golfweek. The course was rated by Golf Digest Magazine as one of the 'Best New Upscale Public Courses in North America for 1997'. The Classic has hosted the Minnesota State Amateur Championship, including the 122nd edition in 2025.
