The Challenge at Cypress Hills is an 18-hole par 71 course measuring 6,762 yards from the longest tees, designed by Clint Mace Sr. and opened in 2009. The greens were reconditioned in 2010 with Champion Bermuda grass. Located in Waskom just minutes from the state line, the course is popular with residents of both Texas and Louisiana.

The course leverages East Texas terrain to create a unique and demanding layout that tests every part of a player's game, requiring accuracy off the tee, good course management, and precision approach shots and putting. The back nine is slightly shorter with one par 5 but plays approximately 4 to 5 strokes harder, with each hole offering unique challenges. All fairways are tree-lined with tall Texas pines throughout the course.

Greens range from 20 to 40 yards and vary in shape from small ovals to long oblongs, with some raised, turtle-top shaped, or flat designs, and most feature slopes, tiers, or ridges for putting interest. The course has only six bunkers filled with white, soft sand.
