Located on the island of Izu Oshima, the course is a 18-hole, par 70 layout designed by Nobukatsu Marumo. Opened in October 1958, the facility is a links-style course that utilizes the natural topography of the island rather than extensive earthmoving. The course is structured so that nine holes can be played in two different configurations to create a full 18-hole round, allowing for varied tee placements and green approaches. The terrain is characterized by undulating fairways and elevated, tee-box-style greens that present significant challenges to approach shots. The layout is known for its exposure to the elements, with strong winds from the Pacific Ocean and Mount Mihara frequently affecting play. Several holes feature out-of-bounds areas, including the 2nd and 11th holes, which are long par-5s bordered by the sea and dense forest, requiring precise distance control. Notable difficulties arise on the par-3 3rd and 12th holes, which share a tee box but offer vastly different yardages and challenges. The 12th hole is a demanding 207-yard shot played from a downhill lie with a forested hazard to the right. The 9th and 18th holes are also considered difficult, featuring steep uphill approaches to guarded greens where a missed shot can result in a difficult lie near a sacred pine tree. The course offers expansive ocean views and clear sightlines to Mount Fuji across the water, a feature highlighted as unique among Japanese golf courses. The fairways are generally wide, reducing the frequency of out-of-bounds penalties, but the combination of wind, elevation changes, and small putting surfaces requires accurate iron play. The facility operates as a self-play course with two-person carts available.
