Located in Tateyama, Chiba Prefecture, Tateyama Golf Club is a 27-hole seaside course designed by Sadayoshi Mano. Opened in June 1967, the facility is situated on the southern tip of the Boso Peninsula, facing the Pacific Ocean. The course is divided into three distinct nine-hole loops: the West, Middle, and East courses. The West and Middle courses are located adjacent to the clubhouse, while the East course is situated a three-minute bus ride away. The layout features flat fairways with subtle undulations, separated by coconut and sago palms, and utilizes Korean bluegrass for the greens. The West Course is noted for its strategic length and distinctive green shapes. The fifth hole, known as "Potato Chip," features a uniquely shaped putting surface, while the sixth hole, "Pine Wall," presents a tree-lined challenge where the tee shot location dictates the approach. The eighth hole is a popular photo spot due to a bunker shaped like a seagull, the club's motif. The Middle Course offers dramatic downhill shots on the first and eighth holes toward the ocean. Its second hole is defined by a treacherous "Ant Hell" bunker guarding the front of the green, requiring a blend of bold driving and delicate short game execution. The East Course provides a different natural landscape, with the second and third holes navigating around creeks that dictate club selection. The fifth hole offers a view of the "Genroku Waterfall," while the seventh hole, named "Ichi Bosen Sen" (A Thousand Miles of Clear View), plays directly toward the Pacific. The course presents a significant test for golfers, with the West Course measuring up to 6,603 yards from the blue tees with a Course Rating of 70.5 and a Slope Rating of 125. The Middle and East courses offer similar yardages and ratings, providing a consistent challenge across the 27 holes. Tateyama Golf Club hosts various internal tournaments throughout the year, including the Club Championship, the Chairman's Cup, and senior divisions such as the Grand Senior Cup. The facility is recognized by the Japan Golf Association (JGA) and the Kanto Golf Association (KGA). The course is accessible by a 90-minute drive from central Tokyo, offering a comfortable environment for play year-round due to the warm climate of the southern Boso region.
