Tam O'Shanter Golf Course is a public 9-hole course located in Niles, Illinois, situated on the North Branch of the Chicago River. The par-33 layout was opened in 1971 and underwent a comprehensive renovation in 2018 by Lohmann Quitno Golf Course Architects and Wadsworth Golf Construction. The course features bent grass greens and fairways maintained to championship playing standards.
Historically significant, Tam O'Shanter traces its roots to the acclaimed Tam O'Shanter Country Club, which hosted legendary golfers including Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Sam Snead, and Arnold Palmer. The course is notably the site of Lew Worsham's famous 1953 wedge shot from 104 yards that won the World Championship of Golf in the first nationally televised tournament. The Niles Park District has owned and operated the course since 1973. The facility includes a practice chipping and putting green and the Howard Street Inn Restaurant. The course has received multiple accolades, ranking among the top-rated short courses in the United States and consistently ranked first among nine-hole courses in the Chicagoland area.
