Takayama Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 72 course located in the highland area of Takayama Village, Agatsuma District, Gunma Prefecture. Situated in a valley surrounded by mountains exceeding 1,000 meters in height, the course utilizes the natural topography to create a layout that challenges golfers with significant elevation changes and panoramic views. The front nine totals 3,337 yards from the regular tees, while the back nine measures 3,553 yards, bringing the total yardage to 6,890 yards. The course is defined by its strategic demands and natural hazards. The first hole presents a long 541-yard par 5 where players must navigate out-of-bounds to the right, while the fifth hole offers a 601-yard par 5 featuring a two-tiered green and left-side out-of-bounds risks. The par-4 holes often require precise distance control; the sixth hole is a 402-yard uphill challenge, and the seventh is a 379-yarder guarded by a water hazard on the right and out-of-bounds on the left. The front nine concludes with the ninth hole, a 371-yard par 4 with a steep two-tiered green that demands careful pin placement awareness. The back nine introduces further complexity with water and creek hazards. The twelfth hole is a 444-yard par 4 requiring a tee shot over a creek, followed by an uphill approach. The fifteenth hole, a 372-yard par 4, forces players to avoid a central water hazard. The fourteenth hole features a raised, tiered green that plays fast from the back, with deep bunkers guarding the front. The seventeenth hole is a demanding 241-yard par 3 that tests approach shots to a protected green. The closing holes provide a dramatic finish. The eighteenth hole is a 606-yard par 5 where players must navigate around two large pines in the center of the fairway before facing another two-tiered green. The course also features notable par-3s, including the eighth at 151 yards and the thirteenth at 175 yards, both of which are noted for their difficult green complexes and surrounding bunkers. The layout incorporates natural undulations and elevation changes throughout, requiring golfers to manage club selection and trajectory carefully across the highland terrain.
