SwinGolf is a simplified variant of traditional golf designed for leisure and family participation, originating in France in the early 1980s before expanding to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Belgium by the late 1990s. The sport utilizes a single universal club with three hitting surfaces and a larger, softer ball to ensure safety and ease of play. Courses typically feature 9 or 18 holes, with fairway lengths ranging from 50 to 300 meters, set out on meadows or fields with manageable maintenance requirements. The layout mimics traditional golf structures with tee areas, fairways, and greens, but simplifies the rules to just nine regulations to facilitate quick learning. The holes are notably larger, with a diameter comparable to a pizza, making it easier for players of all ages, from children to seniors, to hole their shots. There are no handicap systems, club memberships, or dress codes required, allowing for immediate access to the game after a brief instruction. Facilities often include amenities for relaxation, such as areas for enjoying drinks or coffee before, during, and after play. In addition to the golf courses, many locations also feature football golf, a game where players kick a football over a field with obstacles into a target hole. There is no specific tournament history or notable signature holes associated with the general SwinGolf concept, as it is a standardized format implemented across approximately 70 courses in Europe. The focus remains on inclusive, low-barrier recreational play rather than competitive golfing prestige or complex course design.
