Swanston Golf Club was founded in 1927 as a ladies-only course and extended to 18 holes in 1928. The course underwent significant redesign in 2006-2009 with seven new holes opening in March 2009. In April 2016, two of the best holes from the defunct Lothianburn Golf Course were incorporated into the layout, further improving the 18-hole course design.

Located in Edinburgh at Swanston Road, the course is set in the Pentland Hills area with distinctive Scottish moorland terrain and panoramic views. The facility features a challenging 18-hole championship course alongside a 9-hole Par 3 Templar Course designed for practice and shorter play.

The club offers comprehensive facilities including a driving range, practice chipping and putting areas, and the Swanston Golf Academy with 18 covered and grass bays. The venue also houses one of the UK's premier golf club fitting studios managed by Scott Gourlay Golf Technology (SGGT). The clubhouse was renovated in 2007, and the course accommodates members, juniors, and visitors through organized competitions and open events throughout the year. The layout presents moderate to challenging difficulty with varied terrain typical of Edinburgh's moorland courses.
