Steelwood Country Club is an 18-hole championship golf course designed by 1976 U.S. Open champion Jerry Pate, located near Mobile in Loxley, Alabama. The course stretches over 7,100 yards through a private 1,500+ acre lakefront residential community in South Alabama's woodlands. Despite the region's relatively flat terrain, Pate engineered significant elevation changes and fairway undulations to provide challenge and interest. The layout features rolling hills, dense hardwood forests, and natural wetlands, with more than one-third of the holes offering panoramic views of the 200-acre Steelwood Lake. The opening holes play along the lake before routing through heavily wooded sections, returning lakeside for the finishing stretch, including the signature 18th hole. The award-winning course is recognized as one of the nation's premier layouts and serves as the centerpiece of an exclusive private club offering comprehensive amenities beyond golf.
