Located in Chigasaki, Kanagawa, Shonan Country Club is a 72-par facility designed by renowned architect Seiichi Inoue. The course features two distinct nine-hole loops, the Showa Green and the Heisei Green, which can be played individually or combined for a full 18-hole round. The Heisei Green offers a total length of 6,914 yards from the championship tees, while the Showa Green measures 6,719 yards from the same markers. Both loops are par 36, providing a strategic test that balances long par fives with accessible par threes. The layout is characterized by a design philosophy that emphasizes strategy and elegance, integrating with the natural landscape of the Chigasaki area. The course includes specific water hazards that add to the challenge, such as the pond on the 11th hole and relocated water features on the 6th hole. The fairways and greens are maintained with Bentgrass, specifically variety 007, which is standard for high-quality Japanese courses. The club also provides a driving range with 21 bays and an approach practice area to support player development. Historically, the club was established in 1958 by the Mitsubishi group, opening initially as a nine-hole course before expanding to its current 18-hole configuration in 1971. The design by Seiichi Inoue, a pioneer in Japanese golf course architecture, has been preserved and evolved through various renovations, including the construction of a new clubhouse in 2006. The course serves as a venue for the Kanagawa Prefecture Golf Day, offering special rates to local residents, and maintains sister course relationships with clubs such as Nishinomiya Country Club and Otonari Country Club.
