Shin-Naie Country Club is a flat, tree-lined 18-hole course set in the expansive Sorachi Plain of Hokkaido, positioned midway between Sapporo and Asahikawa. The layout is a Par 72 measuring 6,892 yards from the back tees, with a course rating of 71.2. The design features a unique blind-shot characteristic, as every tee box is positioned to offer a direct view of its corresponding green. This visual openness is contrasted by strategic hazards, including bunkers, water features, and subtle green undulations that elevate the difficulty of the round. The course is anchored by two demanding par-5s that test both distance and strategy. The 1st hole is a 507-yard opener that plays gently to the right, featuring a scenic three-tiered pond on the left side that serves more as a landscape element than a penalty, provided the fairway is found. The 11th hole is the longest on the course at 547 yards and presents the most significant strategic challenge. A water hazard with a tricky, hidden shape sits in front of the green, obscuring it from the tee and forcing players to commit to a precise second shot to avoid the water while navigating a green complex surrounded by trees and bunkers. Mid-length holes provide further tests of accuracy. The 5th hole is a 404-yard par-4 surrounded by birch trees, where a wide fairway invites aggressive play, but a water hazard to the right and a ring of four bunkers guarding the green demand precise approach shots. The 18th hole serves as a fitting conclusion, a 391-yard par-4 that plays downhill toward the clubhouse. While the fairway is straight, the green is protected by undulations that can quickly turn a manageable approach into a difficult putt if the ball is not placed carefully. Shin-Naie Country Club has a history of hosting professional events, notably a Ladies Professional tournament in 1996 (Heisei 8), which has contributed to its reputation as a premier course in the Sorachi region. The course is accessible via the Naie and Biei interchanges, offering a convenient route for golfers traveling from the major Hokkaido cities.
